Sometimes, FMA practitioners get so caught up in blade training, they lose sight of the power of a stick as a stick. They pick up a stick and automatically use it as a blade or, if someone attacks them with a stick, they automatically treat it as a bladed attack.
Sticks aren’t a “better” weapon than a blade, they’re also not a “worse” weapon. In this workshop, we’ll focus on familiarization with the stick as a stick or, in more generic terms, using impact weapons as impact weapons. While they are inherently less lethal than blades, sticks provide a lot of usage options that either aren’t feasible or represent a huge risk to attempt with a blade.
